Grameen America | Microfinancing Women

Grameen America provides small business loans, savings support, and financial training to women living below the poverty line across the United States, with no credit history or collateral required. Most of their borrowers are immigrants and women of color. Since opening in 2008, Grameen America has invested over one billion dollars in more than 110,000 low-income women entrepreneurs across 21 locations in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, and San Juan. A woman joins a group of five, completes a short training, and receives her first loan. When she repays, she can apply for more. The model is built entirely on trust, not on systems that have historically excluded her.

Why Grameen. YARI exists because we believe women who own things change things. Ownership starts with access and knowledge. Grameen gives women the capital to begin.

What We Know

Across the world, millions of women are growing businesses and shaping change through small loans and financial education. Yet their stories are rarely told. The focus often falls on data and funding, not on the women themselves, their voices, or their impact. Their strength is everywhere but rarely seen.

What We're Doing

Yari exists to reflect women’s power in motion, what they build, what they grow, and what they pass on. Supporting these organizations is one way we do that. The next is sharing the stories of the women behind the work, bringing their faces, voices, and brilliance into the frame.

Why Microfinancing

Access to capital remains one of the biggest barriers for women starting or growing a business. Microloans offer that first step, a beginning built on trust, not permission. With a small loan, a woman can launch a venture, support her family, and reinvest in her community. Microfinance works because it is practical, empowering, and proven. It turns effort into independence and ideas into opportunity.

Why Financial Literacy

Confidence with money starts early. When girls learn to earn, save, and invest, they gain control over their choices and futures. Financial literacy does not just teach math, it teaches agency. It is how girls grow into women who build wealth, close gaps, and lead with clarity instead of fear.
